PHYS 243       (2-3-3)             Digital Electronics


Number system and codes, binary numbers, binary addition, binary subtraction, binary division, 1st and 2nd complement, decimal to binary conversion, octal, hexadecimal and BCD, logic gates, Boolean algebra, DeMorgan theorems, combinational logic, function of combinational logic, adders, compactors, decoders, encoders, multiplexers, parity generators and checkers, flip-flops, multivibrators, counters and registers, memories, introduction to microprocessors.  Theory will be reinforced by experiments done by students in the laboratory.


Prerequisites: PHYS 107.
